Client Reviews

All feedback is from clients who have visited the workshop or corresponded with the team during the service period.

"I brought in a dive watch that had been used for three seasons of sailing around the Similan Islands without any servicing. Wanchai went through the inspection report with me clearly, explained that two gaskets needed replacing, and sent it back with a written result from the pressure test. That was exactly what I needed before the next trip."

"My grandfather's automatic had not been opened in probably fifteen years. The team were honest about what they found — the mainspring was tired and some parts needed replacing — and they contacted me before doing the extra work. It came back running well, and the condition report was something I kept. One note: the turnaround was three and a half weeks, slightly longer than expected, but I understood from the outset it was possible."

"Straightforward experience. I dropped off a sports watch for the beach-wear refresh after a two-week trip. The price was what was stated, the work was done in five days, and the note they included described exactly what had been cleaned and what the gasket condition was. Nothing complicated — just done properly."

"I came to Aroon Tempus specifically for the marine chronometer service before a longer passage south through the Strait of Malacca. Wanchai understood immediately what the piece needed and was familiar with the calibre. The timing report they provided — across multiple positions — gave me confidence I wouldn't have had from a standard service elsewhere."

"The location on Thalang Road is easy to find and the workshop itself is calm — not what I expected from a repair shop. I brought in two watches at once: one for the beach refresh and one for a full mechanical service. Both were returned with separate written notes. The mechanical service took a little over two weeks, which was within the range discussed. Good work, fairly priced."

"I had been meaning to service a field watch that had been in heavy tropical use for about four years. The mechanical service covered everything I hoped it would, and the strap refresh meant I didn't need to source a new one separately. The condition report noted that the crown seal was showing early wear — something to keep in mind. That kind of honest observation is what I look for."

Case Studies

Three visits to the workshop, described in some detail — the condition on arrival, the work carried out, and what the owner took away.

The Challenge

Dive Watch — Salt Damage After Six Weeks at Sea

A 200-metre dive watch arrived from a client who had been living aboard a sailing vessel anchored near Koh Phi Phi for six weeks. The bracelet links had visible salt crystallisation, and the pushers were stiff. The crown felt gritty. The client was uncertain whether the watch had retained its water resistance.

The Work

The beach-wear refresh service was applied. Salt deposits were removed from lug recesses, bracelet links, and around the crown tube. Both crown gaskets were replaced. The case was pressure tested to 20 bar — the watch passed without issue. The internal movement was visually inspected; no service was immediately required.

The Outcome

The watch was returned within five working days with a written note detailing the cleaning carried out, the gasket replacement, and the pressure test result. The client had a clear record to rely on before returning the watch to daily sea use. Total cost: 4,500 THB.

The Challenge

Heirloom Automatic — Unknown Service History

A Thai-Swiss automatic movement in a mid-century case arrived from a client whose late father had worn the watch for many years. The piece had not been opened in an estimated twelve years. It was running approximately three minutes slow per day. The original strap had deteriorated completely.

The Work

Full mechanical service: disassembly, ultrasonic cleaning of all parts, inspection, lubrication with period-appropriate oils, reassembly, and regulation. Pre-service rate: +/-180 seconds/day. Post-service rate: +/-8 seconds/day. A new leather strap was fitted on the client's request. One barrel spring was found worn and replaced after owner approval.

The Outcome

The watch was returned in three weeks with a written report detailing the initial rate, the barrel spring condition and replacement, the post-service rate, and notes on the case patina — preserved as found. The client described the report as something they intended to keep with the watch permanently. Total cost: 8,200 THB plus component costs.

The Challenge

Marine Chronometer — Pre-Voyage Certification

A European sailing yacht owner planned an extended passage from Phuket to the Maldives and then south. A vintage marine chronometer was to be carried as a backup navigation instrument. The owner needed a written record of the instrument's calibrated behaviour across positions, along with confirmation that the case was properly sealed.

The Work

The marine chronometer and diver calibration service was applied. Full movement service was carried out, followed by regulation across six positions. The case was inspected; the crown o-ring was renewed. A depth-pressure test was conducted in the workshop chamber to the rated specification. Regulation results were measured and recorded over a five-day period post-service.

The Outcome

The watch was returned in five and a half weeks with a written depth-test result and a timing report showing rate stability across all six positions within the accepted parameters for a deck chronometer. The owner described the report as the most detailed watch documentation they had received. Total cost: 14,500 THB.
